If you love animals then this is the camp for you.

We will be having a wild time at Queensland’s Australia Zoo, the home of the crocodile hunter, on the Sunshine Coast. For two and a half days we will be guided on this adventure by experienced educators and zoo keepers. Students go behind-the-scenes to special wildlife enclosures so they can experience real zoo keeper life. They’ll gain an understanding and appreciation of what’s involved in working in one of the world’s most renowned zoological and conservation facilities. Students will have the opportunity to help keepers prepare diets, clean enclosures, and of course meet the wildlife up close. Some of the animals they may meet include spectacular rhino, giraffe, lemurs, wombat, red pandas, meerkats and even the giant tortoises.

Students will get to watch the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors show in the world-famous Crocoseum. Later students have a behind-the-scenes tour of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, the largest purpose-built facility of its kind in the world. Here the students will see the dedicated veterinary team treating sick and injured native wildlife, and learn what they can do to protect Australia’s native fauna.

Lead by one of the education officers, the students will also spend a day working as a group on zoo keeper style tasks and participating in educational talks. Students will gain an understanding of the zoo’s roles in protecting endangered species and captive breeding. Students will also participate in creating an enrichment item for some of the animals. This day gives students real insight into the Zoological Industry and the role of a Zoo Keeper, while experiencing the satisfaction of helping to make a difference in an animal’s day.

During the evenings, students stay at Tunnel Ridge Ranch and will enjoy the property and relax around camp fires and good meals.

On our last day in Queensland we will head to Sunshine Coast Marine Park, delving into a world of discovery and where you will learn about amazing marine animals and interact with them! Students will learn about the roles and relationships of marine animals within a reef ecosystem.

The program leaves Sydney Airport on the morning of Monday 21 May and returns to Sydney Airport on the evening of Thursday 24 May. The program is limited to 16 students with 2 groups of 8 students at the zoo to ensure maximum exposure to the animals and maximum participation.

Please note that due to the expensive nature of the entry, activities, travel and accommodation, the school contribution covers a part of the funds required for this particular program and so $950 surcharge is necessary.
