Duke of Ed – Bronze 2019
INFO: Overnight Program. 4 days/3 Nights. Monday – Thursday. Grades 9 – 12. Male and Female. Extra Cost: $150
This is a camp for the adventurous! This is a camp where you experience 2 x 2 Day hikes.
Duke of Ed: Bronze is a camp for those who like to get outdoors, be challenged to hike and canoe through the bush, camp overnight in tents, cook your own food over a camp fire or on Trangias (metho hiking stoves). You do not need to be doing your Duke of Ed to participate in this camp.
However…Duke of Ed: Bronze is a fantastic way to commence the rewarding journey through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. You’ll be spending time in the wild, hiking and canoeing routes through the Colo region. Cooking dinners in small groups and sitting by the campfire at night will allow you to forge unforgettable memories as well as friendships. You will be amazed at what you can achieve through these experiences.
On the camp you’ll lay the foundations of basic navigation, camp craft and team skills needed for the completion of the rest of the award. This camp combines the Preliminary Training, the Practice Expedition and the Test Expedition so all components of the Adventurous Journey for the Bronze level will be completed. Students will be involved in packing and repacking, gear checking and will engage in necessary skills such as map reading and navigation, route planning and camp craft (fire making, cooking, clearing etc).
Somerset Outdoor Education provides a great opportunity for Duke of Ed participants to complete their Adventurous Journey. Participants are supported on their journey by a great network of sites, tracks, personnel and if necessary, vehicles and communication systems.
Students planning to participate in this program are encouraged to join the Duke of Ed organisation at Bronze level and pay the standard fee. Information and assistance will be provided by the Duke of Ed representative at NBCS.
Please note that this program is a customised program for NBCS, and while the school contributes the majority of funds towards it, due to the expensive nature of this particular program a $150 surcharge is necessary.
